A BRIEF HISTORY OF OUR SCHOOL

The first note about establishing our school dates back to 25th January 1916. There was made a decision about opening two classes of popular school and accepting two public schools during the session of the newly established Town's Council Corporation. One of those schools was the Primary School No 2. Its first seat was a private building and it was located in Piotrkowska Street, which now is called Batory Street. The headmaster's name was Michal Winiarski.

A School building in 1935

The construction process of the school's contemporary building started in 1934 on the square in Stodolna Street, nowadays 1 Maj Street. Wacław Medynski became the headmaster of our school in 1934. The construction process was finished in 1935; after blessing and official opening, the school was given a name of Jozef Pilsudski.

During the war the school was being moved to different places such as "Belveder" in Stryjowska Street, the Town's Baths, the Primary School nr 6 in Senatorska Street. At that time the teachers working in the Primary School No 2 conducted secret teaching. When the war ended (in 1945), the school was moved back to the building in 1 Maj Street.

During 1945/46 21 teachers worked in the Primary School No 2. In 1951 teachers registered the school-aged children by visiting the houses situated in the school district. 150 children were given the food they lacked. The Primary School No 2 was the only one in our town to have a gym hall equipped with wall-bars and a science room. There was also built a toboggan-run in the schoolyard.

First classes

In 1961, according to the education reform, the Primary School No 2 was classified among 8-year schools. At the same time the Kosciuszko Military Unit showed an inclination to assume the patronage of the school. The Primary School No 2 was given a name of Tadeusz Kosciuszko on 23rd June 1963. Wacław Medynski retired and he was replaced by mgr Wincenty Jastrzebski.

In 1972 the orginizing of the classrooms started. There were set up the following classrooms: mathematical, Polish, Russian, geographical, manual training for girls. After inspection conducted at the end of the school year 1972/73 the Primary School No 2 was recognized as the best in the administrative district.

Memorial and Tradition Room

In August 1977 the post of headmaster was taken over by mgr Jan Stefanski. According to planned introduction of the 1st grade within 10-year in the new school year 1978/79, there was established a pre-school class.

In 1979 mgr Wlodzimierz Pabijanek became the headmaster. On 16th October 1979 a new part of the school building was finished and the Memorial and Tradition Room was opened.

On 14th October 1980 the Kosciuszko 1st Mechanized Divisional Headquarters gave the Kosciuszko Primary School No 2 the Kosciuszko Badge along with the membership identity card.
